Over the past 7 years, we have offered two different virtualization technologies – Virtuozzo Containers and OpenVZ. We are now offering an innovative virtualization technology called – Linux KVM. Now available at Thexyz to compliment our existing line of Open VZ VPS we have introduced the KVM VPS. This will be replacing our legacy Virtuozzo VPS servers.

What is KVM?

Linux KVM works in a similar way to Virtuozzo and OpenVZ, KVM is a Linux-based virtualization technology whereby a physical server is partitioned into a number of virtual machines, which act independently of each other, albeit sharing the server’s resources at the hardware level. The philosophy of KVM is ‘full virtualization at the hardware level’, which allows for maximum utilization of CPU resources.

Through emulation of actual servers, each VPS can get a dedicated chunk of the server’s CPU and can even have its own OS installed on the server.

The KVM technology has also allowed us to increase disk and network I/O request processing speeds by means of VirtIO paravirtualization. VirtIO is a virtualization standard for disk and network device drivers, which allows high performance to be achieved.

What are the differences between KVM and OpenVZ?

After the launch of the KVM packages, we’ll be performing extensive post-release compatibility testing with other operating configurations.

What about existing VPS servers?

If you currently have a Virtuozzo VPS server, then you will be upgraded to our new KVM line. If you already have an Open VZ VPS, then you can enjoy improved speeds as we have doubled the amount of resources available.

To welcome the arrival of our new VPS line, we have cut the price of $14.95 per month, to just $1 per month for the first 3 months. Don't delay, get your server up and running with latest and greatest for just $1.

We’ll keep you updated on our progress and on the dates on which the extra OS and Control Panel options will be released.

NOTE: We are currently only offering KVM VPS packages in the US data center.
