Google Backup

Over the last year, we have improved the backup capabilities of our cloud hosting platform by enabling the option to back up your data to Dropbox and CodeGuard

Now we have added the option to have your data backed up online by Google Drive. This option is meant to help Google users integrate their sites with their Google account and thus keep all important data in one place.

How will the Google Drive backup option work for you?

Just like with the Dropbox backup option, which has been extensively used throughout the last year, you will be able to back up your entire site content using your Google Drive accounts. This includes files (text files, images, videos, etc.) and databases (MySQL and PostgreSQL).

NOTE: The Google Drive and the Dropbox backup options will be available on an either-or basis per host, i.e. you can select to back up your data for a certain host using either Dropbox or Google Drive.

How to back up your sites using Google Drive?

In the Web Hosting Control Panel, go to Files and then click on the Remote Backups option:

Then click on the Add Google Drive Account button in the top right corner:

Our Hepsia Backup Application will ask you for permission. Click on the Accept button to go ahead:

Now your hosting account and your Google Drive profile are connected. You’ll also get an email notification from Google to confirm that. You can back up 3 types of data, which are divided into columns, including hostnames (this means the entire content on your sites apart from your databases), MySQL databases and PgSQL databases:

Now select the host that you want to make a backup for and then select the Google account that you want to use from the Connected Accounts dropdown menu:

After that, you’ll need to select the period within which the backup will be generated. You can choose between 3 and 14 backups. Our backup script will run every other day, generating a full backup of your files:

For instance, if you choose 3 backups, the script will create 3 full backups from the last 6 days (a backup every other day). The moment you select the backup period, the backup process will be started. In the root folder of your Google Drive account, you can see the HepsiaBackups folder that has just been created under the Apps folder:

When the hostname backup generation process starts, you’ll see the backups organized in folders (every backup from a given day will be placed in a separate folder).

If you want to make a backup of your MySQL or PgSQL databases as well, you will need to go through the same procedure:

NOTE: We will make automatic backups of your websites and databases on our servers, no matter if you use our Google Drive/Dropbox backup service or not.

On February 1st, 2015, VeriSign, the Registry Operator for the .net domain, is increasing the annual registration price by $0.61 USD.

As a result of this registry increase, the cost of registering and/or renewing a .net domain will be increasing for all orders. The current price of $14.95/year will be increasing to $15.95/year. You'll notice the increase of $1.00. This is due to ourselves absorbing several previous cost increases to ensure we continue to offer our clients the best possible rates.

Before that date however, you might also like to consider renewing any .net domains you own to avoid the upcoming price increase.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns regarding this update, please do not hesitate to contact our support team.

We've left a year of landmark events behind our backs - the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, which united the world around peace and oneness; the space probe on a moving comet, which is a blazing at breakthrough speeds through the universe; and the sensational thaw between the USA and Cuba, which is a great sign that we can all learn the art of living together.

For the IT world, it's been a year of security challenges - issues like Heartbleed and POODLE made serious waves throughout the web, putting thousands of sites and devices under serious threat and reminding us of how fragile we still are. All that, however, led to a positive turn - security software companies became more responsible and Google announced that they will prioritize SSL-encrypted sites.

Despite the turbulent IT environment, Thexyz team managed to keep our system safe from the common vulnerabilities and also launched new security features to help further protect our servers. We also launched two new features in webmail, one being the Chat system and the other a secure password reset via SMS.

In tune with the growing globalization trends we even managed to expand our server network by contracting three new data centers, one in Canada and the other two in Europe. Also, most of our services are now offered and translated in all of the available data center locations around the world, so we can offer you a better performance on a local level.

In 2014, our motto was 'in touch', which inspired us to keep in close contact with you via our social media channels.

In 2015, we are planning to be 'in progress', since we'll keep focusing on large projects like the mobile version of website and control panel which the first part of has today been launched.

We anticipate another great year at Thexyz and we want to thank all of you, our valuable customers, for your continuous support and constructive feedback throughout the year! We are getting better because of your forward-thinking feedback!

Happy New Year!
